Town Clerk’s Office

Every town is required to have a Town Clerk by Law (Town Law, §20). Although the specific roles of town clerks vary from municipality to municipality, they are mainly responsible for providing many important administrative services to residents of the public on behalf of the municipal government.

The Town Clerk’s office is frequently considered the Hub of government, the direct link between the residents of their community and the Town’s Municipal Government. 

The Town Clerk serves residents directly through the issuance of licenses and records management. In addition the Town Clerk serves the Town Board as the recording secretary of Town Board Meetings. 

The Town Clerk, Karen C. Bodine and deputies, Renee McConnell and Roxann Ammerman, are available to help you Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For your convenience, appointments can be made for any resident that is unable to come in during normal business hours.

Duties

Recording Secretary

Author of the official minutes, which are retained permanently for legal and historic purposes. The official minutes are the record of actions of the town board

Town Board Minutes & Agendas

Filing Officer

Duties include maintaining the records of adopted local laws, oaths of office, resignations, petitions, annual budgets, assessment rolls, fiscal reports, notices of lien, court actions, bond and note registers, and the official zoning maps

Licensing Officer

Issues licenses and permits for hunting and fishing, marriage, dog, handicap parking, games of chance, peddler / solicitor, and Boughton Park

  • Note: Transfer Station permits are issued at the Highway / Recycle Office only

Tax Collection

The town clerk is also the tax receiver

Cash Control Officer

Responsible for the collection and disbursement of funds to state, county, and local fiscal officers
